They average physician is not able to spend time discussing wellness, fitness and dietary issues with individual patients. Most medical professionals devote their time to treating acute issues that arise rather then taking a holistic view that would help prevent medical events that may occur in the long term. Fitness trainers and dieticians may be a source. The internet contains so much information it can become overwhelming to sort out the best advice. Unfortunately, when doing research in the web, you can find differing opinions from just about every viewpoint imaginable.

I'm in the beyond 65+ crowd. Always a science guy I was fortunate to have a very physical job for much of my adult life. I was a professional chemist and did a lot of climbing. After that, I taught secondary science and math. After a Master's degree from Texas Tech and continued to work toward a Phd. While working on a summer internship with the US Army, they made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I held several positions responsible for counselling specializing in disability programs at several different installations.

Now retired, I the time and freedom to explore the best options for health, wellness and fitness moving into the golden years.
